The Practice

Dr Katherine Spira is the second generation of her family to run this neurology practice. She worked with her father and mentor, the much loved and esteemed A/Prof Paul Spira for six years then took over when he passed away in late 2023. A/Prof Spira was a caring and humble but brilliant man who brought his best to his patients and colleagues every day over a long career. He achieved incredible results for his patients through beautiful relationships which lasted decades. His example and values inspire our work every day.

 

Despite her father’s encouragement, Katherine didn’t study medicine straight out of school and wasn’t always sure that she would be a neurologist, but inevitably and happily she turned into her parents and absolutely loves her job.

• Bachelor of Science (Genetics)/Bachelor of Arts (Philosophy) UNSW 2005

• Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery University of Sydney 2009

• Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians 2017

• Honorary Medical Officer, Prince of Wales Hospital

• Associate Lecturer, University of New South Wales

• Full Member, Australia and New Zealand Association of Neurologists

• Member, Australia and New Zealand Headache Society

Outside of work Dr Spira is a mother of two young children and loves reading and creative writing.
